Managing Volunteers: Empower Them with Self-Management Tools

Managing volunteers and other participants is a challenging process whether you have 20 people to sign up or 2,000. As a coordinator, you have so many scheduling duties that passing around a paper signup sheet just doesn’t cut it anymore.

You probably came to ivolunteer.com because online signup empowers your participants to self-manage their commitments. Self signup takes much of the burden off you as an administrator. Electronic scheduling also empowers you with a variety of time-saving tools, such as attendance tracking and the ability to generate reports.

Recently, ivolunteer.com introduced new features to make managing volunteers even easier.

Volunteers Can Self-Report Their Hours

Volunteers and other participants can self-report and update their hours. with a special type of signup. Self-reporting is especially helpful when your volunteers contribute over a long period of time without a set beginning or end date. Click here to learn more.

Volunteers Can Self-Manage Group Memberships

ivolunteer.com has always offered the ability for administrators to add a custom prompt linked to one or more database groups. The Database Groups prompt allows you to provide a dynamic list of groups for selection during signup. For example, you may want to have volunteers indicate the type of work they are interested in or the areas in which they have expertise. The participant’s selection adds them to the group or groups in your database.

Well, we have made managing groups even easier. Along with self managing their volunteer hours, now your participants can also update their database group memberships after signup by editing them in their My Commitments portal. Formerly, editing the prompt after signup updated it only in the Event, not your database groups. Adding a group after signup now updates the database group membership dynamically. In the settings for the Database Group(s) prompts, you can choose whether or not to allow volunteers to remove themselves from a group by deselecting it.
